Relying on God

Friday, November 8, 2019

“We felt that the death sentence had been passed on us.  But this happened so that we should rely, not on ourselves, but only on God, who raises the dead.” (2 Corinthians 1:9 GNT)

Sometimes, in our desire to sell Christianity, we make the false claim that there are never any problems.  But this is the real world, with real conflicts and crises and difficult situations.  In our Scripture verse for today, the Apostle Paul says that God had permitted everything he had gone through so that he would have nothing to rely on but the Lord.  You see, faith is at its purest when we have nothing else to lean on but Jesus.

Actually, when we have Jesus, we have everything.  On the other hand, in a given situation, we may learn that our faith in Christ is not one hundred percent, because in the back of our mind we may have a Plan B.  Ah, but then we come to a place where there’s nothing we can lean on, when God takes away all the props and removes every crutch so that we learn to depend upon him alone.

When God brings you to that place, you won’t believe the power that can be unleashed on behalf of the believer!  In fact, when you’re in a hard place with no wiggle room and no one to help you, you’re in a perfect spot for God to do something beyond what you can ask or even imagine.

So if you’re facing adversity today, don’t throw your hands up in the air, saying, “Where’s God?” or “I bind you, Satan!”  Instead, tell the Lord, “I am depending on you for this impossible situation, Lord!”  He will answer you and will deliver you as you place your trust in him.  Do it today!

Read 2 Corinthians 1:3-11.
