Navajo Nation Feb 2015 Update

[This is a recent update from our ministry workers in the Navajo Nation in Arizona] Dear Friends, We so appreciate all your help – prayer, material donations, construction and work teams, and financial support for the ministry here to the Navajo people. Please continue to pray for us for greater love, patience, and wisdom as we minister to the children and young people. As we get to know them we find out more and more heartbreaking information about their lives. A majority of our kids are from broken homes, most often as the result of alcohol. Drugs, poverty, inadequate housing and abuse are often in the picture as well. In the natural eye, things here might seem overwhelming at times, but our confidence is in the Lord Almighty who is able to rescue those who trust in Him. College Preparation We held a college preparation night for high school juniors and seniors in December. Helena, who grew up on the reservation and is an engineer has a real heart to help young people here attain success in education. She was a tremendous help in this project. One of our youth has been accepted at Arizona State University and the University of Arizona! Two others have submitted applications to colleges and universities. Helena will continue assisting these students in the process of applying for financial aid and scholarships. Young Adults, Youth, and Children’s Ministries We had Christmas events for each of these groups and distributed gifts sent by our friends from California and Flagstaff to the children and youth. Thanks to donations from Brooklyn Tabernacle, we were also able to give gifts to the young adults. We also had our first ever New Year’s Eve service, geared mainly to the youth and young adults. The young people were very enthusiastic about the service which included fun activities followed by praise, worship, a New Year’s message from Mark, and time spent praying and seeking the Lord about the upcoming year. As we were taking people home in our church van, one of our young adults expressed to us that this was the best New Year’s Eve she has ever had. Later the van got stuck in a ditch trying to climb a snow covered dirt road. We were very thankful to the Lord that some of our young adult men were able to help free the van. We remembered that a year ago we did not have young men in the church who could have helped us. Discipleship Ministry February 20th we partnered with Navajo Christian Foundation for a youth rally at their gym in the nearby community of Dilkon. The discipleship group teens did a human video and one shared a testimony. The drama and testimony drove home Mark's message on the armor of God (Ephesians 6:13). Many young people came forward when the altar call was given. The discipleship group is also preparing to put on an Easter production for the children of a local foster home that houses about 25 children and teens. Answered Prayer We are very thankful for Emmett who joined our church almost a year ago. He helps tremendously by driving one of the church vans on Sunday mornings. This frees Mark from driving before he teaches Sunday School, ensuring that he is not delayed by his driving the van. Emmett also lends a helping hand at youth and young adult meetings. He has a real heart to reach others with the Gospel. We appreciate his good spirit and willingness to serve the body of Christ. Please keep Emmett in your prayers. Financial Need We hope to be able to bring close to 20 of our youth to the National Native Youth Convention put on by the Native American Fellowship of the Assemblies of God. It will take place in Phoenix next month. This will be the first time we will be able to attend all three days. We have asked the young people to pay $50 towards the $206 expense for the entire trip. Quite a few are not even able to manage that amount. We are asking for sponsors who will make it possible for all these young people to travel with us to this very spiritually uplifting event. Prayer Requests - Pray for us as we have recently taken four kids ages 7 to 19 into our home. Their father died last year and their mother abandoned the younger ones into the care of the 19 year- old (due to her problems with alcohol). We need wisdom and grace to care for them and minister to their needs. - Please also pray for another family in which the mother of three children was arrested recently. This mom needs a real spiritual breakthrough. The three children are with their grandmother, but the 13 year-old daughter has started getting in trouble at school and with the law. Pray for wisdom and grace as we minister to this whole family. - Please keep praying that the power of Christ will break the bonds of alcohol and drugs in those we reach out to. - We marvel at the spiritual growth in our children, youth and young adults over the past few months. To God be the glory! Please pray for continued spiritual progress. - Please pray for laborers to come alongside and help us in all of the ministry work here. We especially need groups to do construction and maintenance projects. The Lord bless you, Mark and Gail McKeller
