A Key to the Blessing of God
“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” (Proverbs 11:25 NIV)
According to God’s Word, a generous person will be made to prosper, because God’s hand of blessing will be upon them. I want to experience that open heaven, that God's blessings might be poured out on me and my children and my children’s children— physically, emotionally and spiritually. Don’t you?
When Scripture speaks of the hand of the Lord being on his people, it means help from above. It also means provision. And one of the keys to the blessing of God in this way lies in our own giving. Jesus said, “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.”
So when we find ourselves thinking that we need this or that supply, let’s ask ourselves, “How liberal are we being in our giving?” It’s not a question of do’s and don’ts. It’s about being imitators of our heavenly Father, who is a giving God. In fact, every good gift comes from him, according to his Word (James 1:17). And as his children, we should want to be like him.
Let’s ask the Holy Spirit to give us a spirit of liberality so that we can refresh others and, in turn, experience God’s blessing in our own lives.
