Where the Action Is
“‘…Is it not written: “My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations”?...’” (Mark 11:17a NIV)
Jesus said, “It is written: ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer.’” This means that the atmosphere of “my Father’s house” is supposed to be the aroma of people opening their hearts and coming in an attitude of worship and adoration. Do we need preaching in our gatherings? Yes. Do we need music? Yes. But Scripture doesn’t say, “Therefore let us come confidently to the sermon…” It says instead, “Let us come confidently to the throne to grace to receive help in our time of need.” If the preacher or gospel singer does his or her job, he or she will lead the people to where the action is: at the throne of grace! No matter what our traditions are, what should distinguish our Christian gatherings is the aroma of prayer. Let’s remember this whenever we come together in Jesus’ name.
